Just need a little help?
Dallas, TX – You are not alone, nor should you be. The world of self-publishing is growing by leaps and bounds and support groups are springing up everywhere. If there is no support group in your area, there are a number of online. Don’t be shy about reaching out. Joining such a group is very important not only for ideas on how to write and market a self-publish your book, but for finding out how others have found success in the world of self-publishing.
How can such a group help you in your quest to be the next great author? Perhaps the most rewarding thing about joining a group is the camaraderie. We all like to spend time with like-minded individuals that share our dreams and ambitions. For groups such as those that self-publish, there is often a noble attitude of “We’re taking on the world” or “It’s us against them (traditional publishers)” and there is a lot of strength and courage that can be harvested from these causes.
Online forums are a great way to gather information and meet people also self-publishing their books. These little bursts of information that appear on a somewhat consistent basis can be very educational and help you put together the pieces of your self-published book project. Forums are at their best when specific questions are asked. Usually, there are many responses with some being quite different than others. This gives you a chance to have a very wide view of the problem and its solutions. It’s important that you participate (rather than logging on and reading what others are saying). You surely have information that can help others and you very well might make new friends and develop important contacts in the process.
A word about competiveness and jealously
Writing groups are very supportive by nature with every member sharing the goal of helping each other. If you find yourself envious of someone or a bit angry that one of the members is writing a book very similar to yours, cast those attitudes aside and remind yourself what these groups are all about. Think of them as your friends as much as possible. And if there is a caustic person in the bunch with a negative attitude, try to win them over rather than allowing them to effect your confidence in self-publishing your book.
No, you are not alone in this journey. The more your participate in self-published user groups and forums, the more successful you will be. And you’ll make some friends and help others succeed. Each and every self-published books tells the world that it is indeed possible!
