What is Page Rank?
Dallas, TX – Google’s algorithm takes over 200 variables into account, including Page Rank, to determine how much love to show your website., The Page Rank system works much like the Richter scale does. An earthquake with a Richter of 2.0 is 10 times, that’s 10 times, as strong as a 1.0. A 3.0 is 10 times stronger than a 2.0 and 100 times stronger (10 x 10) than a 1.0.
While I’m not sure of the exact numerical relationship between a PR of 1 vs a 2 or a 9 it does have a similar geometric scale to it as does the Richter scale. A site with a PR of 2,3, or 4 can do very well in local searches depending upon the topic and the degree of local competition for a certain keyword phrase.
Your site has more than one Page Rank. In fact, each page has it’s own Page Rank! So if you look up the Page Rank of your home page and it’s a 1 or a 0 you may erroneously think your site is out of the running for any respectable search being done, when in fact that page in your site on the aerodynamic qualities of the early frisbees and their effects upon the dental health of the dogs that were catching the darn things, that page may have a PR of 4 or 5 because of all the frisbee or Australian Sheep Dog enthusiasts out there that have linked to that specific page. Get it?
If you think this through to its logical conclusion, getting your site to rank well in the SERPS requires an overall strategy which will include a linking strategy to improve the grade your site receives from the various search engines. Fodder for another post.
